Is Your Old iPhone Worth Repairing?

The one-third rule

Repair when the cost is under a third of what the phone is worth after the repair. If a used iPhone 12 sells for a certain amount in Lahore and the screen costs a fraction of that, repair. If an iPhone 7 needs a screen, a battery and a charging port, and the total approaches what the working phone would fetch, put the money towards the next phone. The rule works because it accounts for the fact that a repaired phone will need another repair eventually.

Model by model, as of 2026

• iPhone 13 series and later: repair almost anything. Modern chip, current iOS, strong resale.
• iPhone 11 and 12 series: repair screens, batteries, ports and cameras without hesitation. Think twice only about board-level water damage combined with other faults.
• iPhone XR / XS / X: a battery is always worth it (from Rs 2,200). A screen is worth it if the battery and board are healthy. Two major repairs at once is borderline.
• iPhone 8 / SE (2020): a battery, yes. A screen, usually. Both plus a port, probably not, unless the phone has sentimental or specific-app value.
• iPhone 7 and earlier: a battery for a spare or a child’s phone, yes. Anything more, rarely. iOS updates have ended and app support is fading.

When we say no

We turn repairs away when the board has extensive corrosion and the phone also needs a screen or battery, when a phone has been opened and damaged by a previous repair to the point that the frame is bent and the flex cables torn, and when the customer’s real problem is speed on an old chip that no part will fix. Diagnosis is free, so it costs you nothing to hear that answer. What you should not accept from any shop is a large deposit before a diagnosis.

The hidden value of a repair

A working old iPhone is worth more than its resale price: it is a backup when the new one is in for repair, a first phone for a child, or a phone for a parent who does not want to learn a new one. A battery replacement on an iPhone 11 costs from Rs 2,500 and gives it another two years for those jobs. Price any repair on the estimator, then decide.
