Face ID problems we diagnose

  • “Face ID is not available. Try setting up Face ID later.” The most common message, meaning the TrueDepth system failed its self-check.
  • “Move iPhone lower / higher” forever, so set-up never completes: usually the dot projector or flood illuminator.
  • Face ID stopped after a screen replacement elsewhere: the front sensor flex was torn, swapped or not transferred.
  • Face ID stopped after a drop or water while the front camera still works.
  • Face ID and the front camera both dead: the whole flex or its connector.
  • Face ID works only sometimes or only in bright light: a failing proximity or ambient sensor on the same flex.

How Face ID works, and why it breaks

Face ID is the TrueDepth system: a flood illuminator, a dot projector, an infrared camera, a proximity sensor and the front camera, all on one flex cable behind the top of the display. The dot projector and flood illuminator are paired to your iPhone’s logic board at the factory. That pairing is why Face ID cannot be fixed by swapping in a new flex from another phone and why a careless screen repair, where the flex is torn or the wrong one fitted, kills Face ID instantly. The good news is that the individual components on the flex are not all paired: on most models the flood illuminator, infrared camera and proximity sensor can be replaced at component level, and even the dot projector can be repaired on many models by transferring its paired chip.

Can Face ID be repaired, or only replaced by Apple?

Apple’s official route replaces the whole flex and re-pairs it with their tools, often quoting the price of a new phone in Pakistan where there is no Apple Store. The independent route, which is what we do, repairs the failed component on the original flex so the pairing stays intact. Our free diagnosis identifies which component failed. If it is the flood illuminator, infrared camera, proximity sensor or a torn flex track, the repair is usually possible. If the dot projector is physically shattered or the pairing data on the board is damaged, we tell you it cannot be repaired and you pay nothing. Roughly speaking, Face ID failures after a screen replacement have the best repair odds; failures after heavy water damage the worst.

How much does iPhone Face ID repair cost in Lahore?

The cost depends on which component failed and on the model; the iPhone X to 11 series, the 12 to 14 series, and the 15 to 17 series use different flex designs. Because we only know after the free diagnosis, we do not publish a price. You get a firm quote before any work starts, and nothing is charged if the repair is not possible. It is always far below a phone replacement.

How long does it take?

Face ID repair is micro-soldering work. Simple cases, such as a torn flex track or a failed flood illuminator, are done in 1–3 hours, often the same day. Dot projector work can take a day. We tell you the timing when we quote.

iPhone Face ID Repair in Lahore: frequently asked questions

Yes, in most cases. APEX Repairing Lab in Gulberg III repairs the failed component on the original front sensor flex so the factory pairing stays intact. Diagnosis is free and we tell you honestly if yours cannot be repaired.

One of the TrueDepth components (flood illuminator, dot projector, infrared camera or proximity sensor) failed its self-check, usually after a drop, water, or a screen replacement that damaged the flex.

Usually yes. This is the most repairable type of Face ID failure, typically a torn flex or a damaged flood illuminator.

No shop can, because the dot projector is paired to your logic board. We repair the components on your original flex instead, which keeps Face ID working without Apple’s pairing tools.

It depends on the failed component and the model. You get a firm quote after the free diagnosis, and no charge if the repair is not possible.

Usually 1–3 hours, often the same day. Dot projector work can take a day.

No. Face ID data is stored in the Secure Enclave on the logic board, which we do not touch. You set Face ID up again after the repair.

We diagnose Touch ID home button faults on the iPhone SE, 8 and older. The button is paired to the board, so a working repair depends on the fault; we tell you after the free check.
