What to do right now if your iPhone got wet

• Turn it off and do not turn it back on to “check”. Every power-on with water inside risks a short on the logic board.
• Do not charge it. Charging a wet phone is the single most common way a saveable phone becomes unsaveable.
• Do not put it in rice. Rice does not reach the inside, delays the real repair, and leaves starch dust in the port.
• Remove the SIM tray, wipe the outside, and keep the phone upright so water drains from the speaker and port.
• Bring it to us the same day. Corrosion starts within hours; recovery rates are highest in the first 24–48 hours.
• If it still works, back it up immediately over Wi-Fi to iCloud or a computer, then power off.

How we repair a water-damaged iPhone

The phone is opened, the battery disconnected, and the logic board removed and inspected under a microscope. The board goes through an ultrasonic cleaning bath with a board-safe solution to remove water residue and the corrosion that has already started, followed by drying. We then check the power rails and diode readings to find shorted or corroded components: commonly the charging IC, the audio IC, backlight and display connectors, and the battery and camera connectors. Damaged components are replaced at board level. Finally the display, battery, cameras, speakers and microphones are tested; any that were damaged by the water are quoted separately for replacement.

Can my data be recovered?

Usually yes, if the storage and the CPU on the logic board are intact. Because iPhone storage is encrypted and tied to the board, data cannot be read by moving the chip elsewhere; the board itself has to be brought back to life long enough to boot and back up. Is the iPhone not waterproof?
